A South Carolina woman didn’t let her failure at previous lottery jackpots stop her from participating in a second chance event. His determination paid off: $1 million. South Carolina Educational Lottery officials said in a news release.
The Fort Mill resident took home the seven-figure grand prize at the $1,000,000 Wealth Second Chance Promotionaccording to the press release.
The woman discovered in an email that her ticket was the one selected from more than 800,000 applicationsofficials said.
“I read it twice and screamed at my husband to read it,” the winner said in the release. “I was jumping up and down screaming.”
THE the draw took place on May 9, and the $1 million jackpot was the only prize awarded, according to the lottery website. Scratch tickets submitted after August 22, 2023 were eligible for the lottery game.
It was a subtle sign that gave him the motivation to submit his losing ticket in the second chance event, officials said.
The woman said she happened to notice a small triangle in the corner of one of her lottery tickets indicating it could be entered for another chance to win, according to the release. After some research, the woman joined the lottery players’ club and entered that ticket and others she later purchased, officials said.
Despite the big salary, the woman joked that she would continue to do household chores.
“I still have to do laundry,” she said.
The winner has committed to making a purchase that she will make with her new windfall.
“I want to be financially responsible with this. My only crazy thing is that I lost my engagement ring and I’m going to afford to replace it,” she said.
The winner will be allowed some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states – along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, ‘Ohio, Texas and Virginia – which allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
