Deadpool and Wolverine is coming out in theaters in a few weeks, and the wait for Wade Wilson’s return to theaters has been a little longer than expected. If you haven’t seen the previous films in a minute, or just want to watch Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman exchange jokes, they cover you.
As part of Entertainment Weekly cover story On the film, the two actors sat down to recap the major events of the first two dead Pool movies, and also X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The latter briefly opens the recap, and exists primarily so the two can throw some shade at the film and how it ultimately led to Reynolds reprising his short role to begin with. (“We don’t like to talk about this one too much,” Jackman says at the beginning, followed later by Reynolds saying the movie wasn’t either of their faults.) Throughout the dead Pool sections, there are plenty of laughs about the makeup work to play up Wade’s disfigured face, the “many” approachable X-Men throughout the franchise, and Deadpool 2 post-credit meta gags.
If you’ve enjoyed watching the bond between the two develop since they first revealed that Jackman would be in the third Deadpool movie, you’re in for a treat reading the recap. The duo has been all over the marketing for Deadpool and Wolverine, and it’s fun to see them tease each other, be baffled by the previous films and also take a dig at their own careers. (When talking about Reynolds committing suicide at the end of Deadpool 2 (As a “housekeeper” at Fox’s expense, Jackman acknowledges that he himself could use a cleaner.) Unfortunately, there is no recap. Logan, which makes sense since it’s an alternate version, but it would have been fun to see them try to explain the wonky timeline of the movies.
Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters July 26. All the X-Men movies can be watched on Disney+, and if you don’t have it, just wait two weeks for FX to marathon the first two dead Pool movies (and probably Origins And Logan Also).
