Uber has rolled out a new update that lets users look up average fares and wait times for planned rides in other cities. The company said it wants to give people planning trips or vacations more visibility into how much it will cost to book an Uber ride once they get there.
According to Uber, the update will allow users to access fare and wait time information in approximately 10,000 cities around the world. The change will roll out starting Tuesday, July 16.
To find this information, select the “destination” box in the “plan your trip” tab and scroll down to “search in another city.” There, the app will auto-fill some popular choices or allow you to enter your own destination.
With the Summer Olympics set to begin later this month, Uber used Paris as an example of the type of city people would be interested in learning more about getting around. After selecting Paris, you can book a virtual car ride from any two locations to see how long the trip will take, or you can request more information about average fares and wait times. You can also book a trip several days in advance.
Uber said it wants to “take the guesswork out” of travel, especially as millions of people are expected to travel to Paris for the Olympics. The company is also offering a number of other Olympic-related perks, including a partnership with Flying Blue, the Air France-KLM Group’s loyalty program, as well as champagne tours and river cruises bookable through the Uber app.
