Royal Ascot is here! Notable Speech and Rosallion headline the first day of the royal meeting, with all seven races live on Sky Sports Racing…
4.25Ascot – Rosallion seeks revenge on Notable Speech
The undefeated Remarkable speech comes into the St James’s Palace Stakes after his impressive 2000 Guineas victory and is a worthy favorite of Charlie Appleby.
That of Richard Hannon Rosalion has remained well behind Notable Speech at Newmarket and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him buck the trend today. He has since scored in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, beating opponents Undeniable.
Henry Longfellow was disappointing in the French 2000 Guineas but will be good enough for this race and enters the calculations. Ryan Moore is at the plate for Aidan O’Brien, seeking his 80th winner at the royal meeting. Metropolitan is also worth considering, having fended off Dancing Gemini to win the French 2000 Guineas.
2:30 p.m. Ascot – Charyn, Big Rock and the audience face off
That of Roger Varian Charyn held up well in the Lockinge Stakes behind Audience and has the ability to land his first Group One. Silvestre de Sousa retains the race over the two-time Group 2 winner. He sits at the top of the market alongside Horse Postmanwho impressed when landing on the Dubai Turf at Meydan last time out.
The French trained Big rock is a strong contender having made light work of his rivals in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day. He could easily bounce back from his run at Newbury where he stumbled at the start, although Maurizio Guarnieri’s move into the field raised eyebrows.
Audience caused an upheaval in Lockinge by doing everything and must be respected today for John and Thady Gosden under Rab Havlin.
3.45Ascot – The big Evs in the headlines of the King Charles III Stakes
The trained Michael Appleby Big EV landed Windsor Castle at the royal meeting last year and can justify the favoritism. The three-year-old has emerged victorious in his last three starts and – reunited with Tom Marquand – will be looking for four on the spin.
Regional was slightly beaten by Mitbaahy in the Greenlands Stakes, but with Charlie Hills’ horse elsewhere this time around he could start favorite. Kerdos comfortably won the Temple Stakes at Haydock and could pose a dangerous threat if he improves in this race.
Australian raider Asfoora ran in the Temple Stakes last time and needs to be respected on a healthier surface.
