3.15 Yarmouth – Showdown of well-behaved newcomers
Ninja Cat is an exciting daughter of Cotai Glory who is a half-sister to 1000 Guineas heroine Cachet. Unlike her parent, she has been kept off the track until now and is stable jockey Kieran Shoemark’s first choice in the race. Stable companion Racing spirit isn’t too badly bred either – being related to French Group 1 winner Jannah Rose.
The daughter of Invincible Spirit will be mounted in this Download the QuinnBet Maiden Fillies’ Stakes app by Oisin Murphy as she makes her racecourse debut. Sir Michael Stoute has had a slow start to the season and is looking to start it with a daughter of a mare he was training with. Red Leprechaun. She made an interesting debut at Kempton Racecourse attracting attention to finish fourth in an education race. She traveled well that day but found little under pressure. With experience, she should do well here.
4.10 Brighton – The African Queen makes her seasonal reappearance
New heights managed to get his act together later in the season, notably at Epsom winning his last two starts for Jonathan Portman. She seems to be a specialist on undulating tracks – and Brighton is certainly one of them – but her fresh drive isn’t anything to shout about.
Least exposed in this area British Stallions EBF Fillies Handicap East The African Queen who did everything during his last start in the company of novices. She is part of the Handicap company here for a construction site coming down from North Yorkshire in the hope that the 500 mile round trip will be worth it. Course and distance winner Haze is hiding on a high note and falling in class after a few disappointing runs towards the end of last season. She won on this course on her debut last year and she will do well here too.
5:00 p.m. Yarmouth – The in-form Nighteyes lead a talented field
Night Eyes finally took the lead in his final start of last season when winning at Ripon over 1 furlongs. The David O’Meara-trained daughter of Night Of Thunder has been admirably consistent in her five starts, finishing second three times. A score of 80 already seems tough enough and she will need to improve on her seasonal debut to clinch the title. QuinnBet Fillies Handicap.
Royal Elysian made his seasonal reappearance at Southwell and traveled well despite late fatigue. If she gets better at this, she’ll be fine here again. Shin Jidai ran well in a hot Newmarket nursery and is making a reappearance here. If she steps up this performance, she will have a great chance.
