Ryder Cup winner Captain Thomas Bjorn will once again serve as assistant to European skipper Luke Donald at next year’s tournament at Bethpage Black in New York, live on Aerial sports.
The Dane, who led Europe to victory in Paris in 2018, will return to the vice-captain role he held under Donald during last year’s triumph in Rome.
Bjorn’s reappointment was confirmed by Donald on Tuesday and comes after Italian Edoardo Molinari was also re-hired ahead of the competition in New York.
Donald hopes this continuity will benefit Europe as it attempts to win in the United States for the first time since 2012.
Donald said: “I’m very happy to have Thomas back in the team. Once I was made captain again, my thoughts quickly turned to who I wanted to have in the team behind the scenes – and Thomas as was certainly part of it.
“He means a lot to me. He passed on his knowledge to me and I have had excellent relations with him in recent years.
“This is an away Ryder Cup, so the sooner we can start planning, the better.”
This will be Bjorn’s sixth time serving as vice-captain and his 10th Ryder Cup appearance overall, having also represented Europe three times as a player.
The 53-year-old said: “It was a natural progression from last time.
“We had a fantastic environment in Rome. Luke did an incredible job. He was a fantastic leader, not just of 12 players, but of the whole Ryder Cup Europe team who worked so hard behind the scenes.
“It was amazing for me to be a part of it because I knew how all these things worked from Paris. Seeing how he added a few more things to Rome and made it even better was amazing and I was very proud to him. He was exceptional.”
The Ryder Cup will take place from September 26 to 28, 2025. The United States has not yet named its captain.
