In a statement released Monday evening, Hamas said Mohammed Jaber Abdo was killed along with three other fighters in a village near Ramallah, where the headquarters of the Western-backed Palestinian Authority is located.
A joint statement from the Israeli army and police said Monday that undercover forces had tracked down a suspect wanted in connection with an attack on a nearby Jewish settlement.
Violence has increased in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, sparked by the October 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel.
Since then, more than 530 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Most were killed during violent protests or Israeli arrest raids, which often trigger shootings.
Earlier Monday, the U.N. Security Council overwhelmingly approved a U.S. resolution that welcomes a proposed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

He said the man was hiding in a compound with three other suspects and that law enforcement opened fire when they tried to run them over with a car and flee. Weapons were found in the car.
