Australia’s Josh Hazlewood says knocking England out of the T20 World Cup would be “in our best interests as well as probably everyone else’s” after beating Namibia.
Australia broke Namibia’s first innings total in just five overs and four balls to remain unbeaten in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday.
Adam Zampa took 4-12 from four overs as they rushed into the Super 8s with a Group B match to spare.
Australia’s final Group B match against Scotland in St Lucia on Saturday could now decide England’s fate, with skipper Jos Buttler knowing they must beat Oman and Namibia in their final group matches .
“In this tournament you might end up against England again at some point. And like I said, they’re probably one of the few teams at the moment where, you know, we’ve had real difficulties against them in T20 Cricket,” Hazlewood said.
“If we can get them out of the tournament, it’s in our best interest and probably everyone else’s.
“It’s a strange thing to say. I’ve never really been in this position before as a team. I don’t think so. Whether or not we have discussions or just try to play like ourselves again We did it tonight, again, it’ll be up to the people, not me.”
And after?
Australia’s final match in Group B is against Scotland in St Lucia early Sunday at 1am BST, while England face Namibia in Antigua on Saturday at 6pm – live on Aerial sports. First up, England face Oman on Thursday at 8 p.m.
