Spotify It appears to be an emergency alert test, but the project is still in its early stages.
The music streaming service is testing in Sweden, where it is headquartered, with lines in the app’s code referencing the new feature. A Spotify spokesperson confirmed to Techcrunch that the test was taking place, but that it was currently only located in Sweden.
“At Spotify, we regularly run a number of tests with the goal of improving the user experience,” the company said. “Some of these tests end up paving the way for a broader user experience, while most of them just serve to teach us something.”

To be clear, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Swedish users will be getting Spotify’s emergency pop-ups anytime soon. The company is clearly working on changing the code for the feature, but internal testing may be the only way for now. Mashable has reached out to Spotify to clarify, and we’ll update this article if we hear back.
While emergency alerts may seem a little different from Spotify’s usual offering, it’s not necessarily the biggest step forward. Other tech giants like Google And Apple have various security features, and Facebook has had a Security check function for years.
