A British Columbia chicken has broken a Guinness World Record by identifying different numbers, colours and letters.
Gabriola Island veterinarian Emily Carrington said she bought five hyline hens last year to produce eggs and quickly began training the hens to identify magnetic letters and numbers.
“Their task was to peck only the number or letter that I had taught them to peck and ignore the others. Even if I add a whole bunch of other letters that are not the ones they are supposed to peck, they just peck the letter that I taught them to peck,” Carrington explains. told the Nanaimo News Bulletin.
Carrington decided to have all his chickens try the Guinness World Records title for the most tricks performed by a chicken in one minute.
One of the chickens, Lacy, became the big winner of the flock, correctly identifying 6 letters, numbers and colors in one minute.
The targeted nature of the figures led Guinness World Records to create a new category for Lacy: the most identifications by a chicken in one minute.
