Simone Biles will head to the Olympics for the third time after posting an overall score of 117.225 in Minneapolis during the U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials, which concluded Sunday evening.
Biles made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where she won four gold medals and a bronze. She then won a silver and bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the Tokyo Games, Biles withdrew from the women’s all-around final to focus on her mental health. She said seeing a therapist every Thursday kept her feeling good as she prepared for a trip to Paris.
“I knew I wasn’t done after my performance in Tokyo,” Biles told NBC. “I just got back in the gym, worked hard and trusted the process… I knew I would be back.”
Joining Biles on the U.S. women’s gymnastics team were Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles, who finished second and third, respectively, at the trials. Lee clocked 111.675 seconds, while Chiles clocked 111.425 seconds.
Jade Carey (111.350) and Hezly Rivera (111.150) also punched their ticket to the Paris Olympics, completing the top five.
Joscelyn Roberson, sixth, and Leanne Wong, seventh, will serve as traveling replacements.
