Russian-backed authorities in the occupied Crimea city of Sevastopol said Friday that one night attack by the Ukrainian army hit an electrical substation, causing power outages throughout the city which is home to part of the Russian naval fleet.
Schools were closed in Sevastopol, a city of about half a million people on the Black Sea, Mikhail Razvozhaev, the city’s Russian-backed governor, said on Telegram. At least 51 drones were intercepted overnight in Crimea, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The Ukrainian military did not immediately comment on the attacks.
Reports on social media reported fires and explosions, including at a fuel depot in the city of Novorossiysk. the Internet connectivity in Sevastopol fell to about 16 percent, according to NetBlocks, an Internet monitoring group.
The Ukrainian military has made some of its most significant advances through its operations in the Black Sea.
