A Reddit user decided to divorce his wife after her “psychic” friend falsely informed her that he was cheating.
“AITAH for refusing to consider stopping our divorce after my ex admitted he was ‘psychic’ a friend lied that I’m having an affair?” asked Reddit user “Successful-Top3827” in a Friday, May 3, post on Reddit’s “AITAH” subreddit.
“AITAH” means “Am I the asshole here”.
It’s similar to the “Am I the A-hole” subreddit.

In the post, Successful-Top3827 stated that he met his wifeRhona, at university, and that he “made the terrible assumption that her post-secondary education meant she had a modicum of common sense.”
The couple lived together for two years before getting married – and during their wedding, Successful-Top3827 met Rhona’s friend Anna, he wrote in his post.
“HAS our marriage I met an old friend of hers, Anna. She offered to read my palm because she was part gypsy,” he said – which he found “weird,” he said.
“I work in construction and I know a few people from this group, who call themselves Roma,” he said.
Anna, Successful-Top3827 said, is a seamstress in New York and doesn’t visit often. He and his wife have only seen her “maybe four times” in the past two years, the last time on Labor Day in 2023.

“And that’s when it got weird. All of a sudden, Rhona starts acting weird,” he said.
“She starts checking on me at work. She comes over when I’m working late. She asks me to use my phone because hers is almost out of power. That kind of thing.”
Ultimately, Rhona accused Successful-Top3827 of have an affair – what he thought was a joke.
“It sets it off like a Roman candle.”
“I laugh and say no,” he said. “It turns him on like a Roman candle. Because Anna told him I’d laugh about it when Rhona came looking for the truth.”
Successful-Top3827 laughed, he revealed, because the idea of him having an affair was “ridiculous” due to his work schedule and the fact that he is with his wife most of the time he is not at work, he said.
“And most of all, I love my wife. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt her,” he said.
“And yet she takes the word of Anna, the psychic seamstress, rather than mine.”
Rhona then asked Successful-Top3827 to move, and he refused – because he had nowhere to go, he wrote. Instead, Rhona moved in with his parents.
“My dad told me to shake my head, which he only does when I’m being monumentally stupid.”
“They think she’s crazy too,” he wrote to others.
Successful-Top3827 then “spent the next few months” trying to convince his wife that he wasn’t having an affair.

Rhona’s family has remained silent on the situation until Christmas, when they “had an intervention”, he detailed in his message.
“They said my wife had a break with reality and she didn’t come out. My dad told me to shake my head, which he only does when I’m being incredibly stupid,” he said.
In January, Successful-Top3827 began divorce proceedings, he said. Three months later, in April, he wrote: “Rhona is calling to talk.”
“Turns out (she) and her parents hired a private investigator to find out about my affair. Six months and a huge bill later, no evidence of an affair,” he said.
“She finally believes me and wants to come home.”
Having none of it, Successful-Top3827 told the woman that their lease was ending in July and that he would be moving to Denver to be closer to family.
“She said she would come with me. I respectfully declined. I told her we just weren’t right for each other,” he said.
“The truth is, I don’t want my offspring sharing DNA with that dingbat.”

Rhona’s family, however, is apparently upset that Successful-Top3827 is moving forward with their divorce.
“His family has contacted me several times. The last time, his father offered to give us a 25% deposit on a house if I agreed to go to marriage counseling instead of just leaving,” did he declare.
“I politely declined. I can’t be bought.”
Meanwhile, “Rhona is now depressed, but I don’t see any way to trust her again,” the man wrote.
“She’s young enough that she could remarry and destroy another man’s life,” Successful-Top3827 said.
Then — he asked the others — “AITAH?”
“I don’t want my offspring sharing this dingbat’s DNA.”

“Absolutely NTA. At least you found out before you had kids! I can only imagine how this relationship would have been in the future. Every new magazine quiz or daytime talk show would lead to a new charge,” Reddit user “rwj212” said in the top-voted comment.
Another high-profile commenter said Successful-Top3827’s marriage was over after Rhona took a psychic’s words over her own husband.
“The fact that she then convinced her parents to hire a (private detective) to get information about your infidelities is just icing on the cake,” user “Fit_Reason7319” said in another important comment .
Fit_Reason7319 continued: “What else will she blindly believe when her psychic friend sees another vision? Run, don’t walk.”
Another user wrote: “It’s completely evil of her friend to make accusations like that. If she wanted to show off her ‘psychic’ abilities, she could have made up any other thing that couldn’t not ruin a person’s life,” said Reddit user “Ashamed-Source3551.”
But, that same commenter noted, “the psychic helped you dodge a huge bullet” by making Successful-Top3827 realize early in his marriage that his wife was potentially unstable.

“Imagine if you had kids with her and her friend felt like you were abusing the kids,” the same person said, adding that Successful-Top3827 could have ended up in jail.
“Even if your situation really sucks, at least you are now free from someone so easily influenced,” Ashamed-Source3551 said.
