The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Corbin Burnes on the paternity list Friday and recalled left-hander Matt Krook from Triple-A Norfolk.
Burnes, 29, allowed one run on nine hits in seven innings in a win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday, improving his record to 9-3 and lowering his ERA to 2.28. The 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner for the Milwaukee Brewers is in his first season with the Orioles.
MLB’s paternity list allows players to miss up to three games, and Burnes is not expected to pitch during that time anyway.
The move gives Krook, 29, the opportunity to make his debut with the Orioles. Krook was mauled for 11 runs in four relief outings with the New York Yankees last season as he appeared in the major leagues for the first time.
In 26 relief outings in Triple-A this season, Krook is 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA.
