Lionel Messi returned to training with Argentina on Monday as the national team prepares to face Ecuador in the Copa America quarter-finals on Thursday in Houston.
Messi had not trained since injuring his right groin/thigh in his team’s 1-0 win over Chile on June 25. He did not play in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Peru on Saturday.
According to the Argentine Football Federation, Messi “did kinesiology work before training and was with the rest of the group afterwards.”
The 37-year-old star has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons while playing for Inter Miami in MLS. He missed six games last season with a leg injury and another six this season.
Despite missing this year due to health and selection issues, Messi has scored 12 goals, fourth-most in MLS, in 12 games. He was named to the MLS All-Star Game roster on Monday.
