The Q39 is expanding – again.
The competition-style barbecue restaurant will open its fourth location late next year in Lee’s Summit, its owners said in a statement.
This will be part of Oldham Villagea future mixed-use development off Oldham Parkway, southwest of Missouri Route 291 and U.S. Highway 50. Much of the site was formerly Adesa, an auto auction center.
“Q39 (at Lee’s Summit) will feature a fully equipped kitchen specifically designed to accommodate on-site dining, a robust takeout business and full-scale catering service,” the release said. “There are also plans to provide a large outdoor seating area. »
The news follows that of the Q39 announcement in February that it would open a new location in Lawrence at Press Yards, a redevelopment project on the site of the former Lawrence Journal-World printing plant. The opening is still planned for later this year.
After competing in barbecue competitions for more than a decade, Rob Magee opened the first Q39 in 2014 in downtown Kansas City at 1000 W. 39th St., followed by a Overland Park location at 11051 Antioch Road. Magee died of cancer in 2021. The restaurants are now owned by his wife, Kelly, with chef Philip Thompson as culinary head.
