US Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly in talks to join the speaker lineup at the upcoming Bitcoin conference, adding to a roster that already includes leading US presidential contender Donald Trump and candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The conference, which is scheduled to take place in Nashville from July 25-27, is expected to be a blockbuster event.
All three presidential candidates could appeal to pro-Bitcoin voters
David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine and conference organizer, announcement the potential addition via X, saying: “We are in discussions with the Kamala Harris campaign to have her speak at the conference. It would be a great fit for her to reposition the Democrat to the fastest growing bloc of voters in the country. They are making their decision today.”
Harris’ potential involvement has drawn mixed reactions from prominent figures in the cryptocurrency industry. Tyler Winklevoss, founder of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, expressed skepticismstating: “Talk is cheap. She should start by immediately firing Gary Gensler, withdrawing all SEC enforcement actions against good actors, and ending Operation Chokepoint 2.0. She won’t do it just to lose the chance of winning back the cryptocurrency voting bloc. It’s time for a change.”
Ram Ahluwalia, CEO of Lumida Wealth, commented on the changing political landscape, noting: “THE OVERTON WINDOW HAS MOVED. Candidate Harris speaks at Bitcoin conference? Will the administration fire Chairman Gensler? Isn’t that the only action that matters? Two presidential candidates are competing for the affections of crypto natives at the Bitcoin conference. Both have flip-flopped in pursuit of political expediency. (…) If Biden and Harris are serious, they should fire Chairman Gensler.”
Wayne Vaughan added a critical take, saying: “Democrats have spent four years trying to destroy Bitcoin. Kamala Harris only wants to speak at the Bitcoin conference because she desperately wants to avoid losing this election. Democrats want a piece of that precious money raised by pro-crypto Super PACs. Don’t be fooled. Vote for them.”
David Gokhshtein, another prominent figure in the crypto community, shared his skepticism with humor: “It’s hilarious that Harris is speaking at the Bitcoin conference. What is she going to talk about? How she and the Biden administration have done everything they can to kill Bitcoin and crypto?”
This news follows a recent revelation Entrepreneur Mark Cuban said Harris’ team has reached out to him to ask about cryptocurrency. “I get a lot of questions from her people about cryptocurrency,” Cuban said Tuesday. “So I take that as a good sign. The feedback I’m getting, but certainly not confirmed by the vice president, is that she’s going to be much more open to business, (artificial intelligence), cryptocurrency and government as a service.”
The news that Kamala Harris could also join the Bitcoin conference comes after Donald Trump made huge waves with his pro-Bitcoin speech and pro-crypto statements in recent weeks. Trump is rumored to have announce BTC as a strategic reserve asset for the United States during his opening speech on the last day of the conference (Saturday).
At press time, BTC was trading at $65,615.
