Over the course of an NBA season, we experience many mind-blowing moments in different ways. If it’s not a defender getting run through so hard he hits the canvas, it’s a bone-crushing dunk that gets people out of their seats. Sometimes we watch in awe as players like Stephen Curry or Damian Lillard hit game-winning three-pointers from 40 feet away. But what Houston Rockets Guard Jalen Green’s move to Anfernee Simons of the Portland Trail Blazers this weekend should be almost illegal. A new candidate for dunk of the year entered the room.
This dunk by Green is the nastiest, dirtiest dunk ever seen in the game. The dunk itself isn’t completely out of the ordinary, but the entire scene of Green going up and past Simons and down with such thunder is what does this. And the part where the announcer says, “On the Simons Dome!” That may have put things over the top.
Again, it’s the NBA so we see tons of dunks, but the way Green elevates and then climbs the ladder even further on Simons was a sight to behold. This was one of those situations where Simons would have been better off not jumping. Kudos to him for the attempted defense, but damn it. Luckily for Simons, posters aren’t what they were 30 years ago. It’s always been posterized, but it will live forever on the Internet instead of on the bedroom walls of young boys across the country. Come to think of it, living in infamy on the World Wide Web is probably worse.
As you can see, Green is not afraid since he already participated in a slam dunk contest, even if the result was not what he hoped for. The mere fact that he participated speaks volumes about his competitive drive. Unlike others, who will remain anonymousbut avoid the competition like the plague.
On the other hand, if you’re the target like Simons, it’s probably best to stay off social media for 24 to 48 hours. Because this clip is going to be replayed, analyzed and scrutinized to death, just like we did here. This is all great fun and happens to the best of them. But for those who don’t like reviews, just put down your devices (if possible) and grab a powder.
