The subtitle is How Money and Markets Really Work. I’m a big fan of Kyla Scanlon (see link for his other work), who is a force of nature. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2019 and has a fresh and very effective approach to how to speak. I first heard about her through her how-to videos, and it turns out she does one almost every day.
In addition to being very well produced, this economics book has two notable characteristics. First, it elevates the notion of “atmosphere» as an important determinant of economic activity. I use the older (and less virulent) terminology of “cultural contagion,” but in any case I consider it to be a set of neglected and under-analyzed forces, including in the economic domain.
Second, this is the first popular economics book I’ve seen that takes 2024 seriously. Imagine you trained a “big-talk human” on what people are really talking about and worrying about today, and you set that human loose to write an economics book. This is what you would get. It is a positive and invigorating shock to those who have formed their memories on a weighted average of a more distant past.
By the way, here is some of Kyla’s favorite poems. Why are there no major MSM profiles of her?
