An Idaho sheriff’s deputy died after being shot during a traffic stop Saturday evening, authorities said.
Deputy Tobin Bolter, 27, stopped a gray Chevrolet Suburban in Boise just before 9 p.m. and was shot as he approached the driver’s window, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver, a 65-year-old man wanted on a misdemeanor warrant, fled the scene after the shooting, Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said.
A citizen who saw Bolter being shot called 911 and rushed to the injured deputy to perform CPR until medics arrived. Bolter was then rushed to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where he died Sunday.

Boise police quickly located the suspect’s vehicle unoccupied and later found a man believed to be the suspect outside a home during a search of the area, the Boise police chief said , Ron Winegar.
The man refused to surrender to the police tactical unit and, shortly after midnight, shot at the officers, Winegar said. A police officer returned fire, hitting the man.
Officers rescued the man at the scene before he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the chief said. The man’s name has not yet been released.
During the standoff, police asked some residents to clear the area while warning others to stay indoors, Winegar said.
A second deputy, on his way to help Bolter after the first shooting, was involved in a two-vehicle crash. The deputy was in stable condition at the hospital while the condition of the other driver was unknown.
