ICICI Bank, one of the leading private sector banks in India, finds itself embroiled in a major controversy. Recent reports suggest that a number of employees have been unfairly dismissed by the bank.
In response, these employees filed a lawsuit against ICICI Bank, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
To add to the bank’s woes, the Labor Commissioner has summoned the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, Mr. Sandeep Bakshi, to a meeting scheduled for June 28, 2024.
The Labor Commissioner’s office received numerous emails alleging that ICICI Bank had indulged in illegal termination of employees without sufficient notice. Furthermore, it has been claimed that the bank continues to ignore established processes and policies in this regard.
The meeting between the Labor Commissioner and ICICI Bank executives promises to shed light on the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action. As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are on ICICI Bank as the outcome of this investigation could have far-reaching implications on the bank’s reputation and standing within the industry.
Employees took to social media platforms to express their displeasure over the bank’s allegedly unethical conduct. According to reports, several employees, including women, were dismissed without notice or valid justification.
Employees who shared screenshots of emails claim the bank mercilessly forced them out of their jobs, ignoring their demands and grievances. Additionally, there are allegations that the bank’s human resources department puts significant pressure on employees, forcing them to resign against their will.
This sudden layoff caused significant hardship for employees, including financial hardship, inability to meet their basic needs, repay loans, handle medical emergencies, pay children’s school fees, and care for elderly parents. Despite their efforts to contact HR management for a proper response, none of their emails or calls were answered.
Tragically, an employee in Uttar Pradesh committed suicide. Employees report experiencing exploitation, humiliation and an unsuitable work environment due to biased senior managers who constantly demotivate and demean junior employees.
