The men’s major season is over for 2024, with attention now turning to a busy end to the golfing year and plenty of exciting events still to look forward to on Sky Sports Golf.
Xander Schauffle claimed victory at The Open after a thrilling week at Royal Troon, following his major breakthrough earlier this year at the PGA Championship, while Scottie Scheffler won the Masters in April and Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open for the second time.
It will be another nine months before Rory McIlroy gets the chance to complete a career Grand Slam at the Masters after an 11th year of major drought, with the Northern Irishman now looking to finish the season strong on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Attention will then turn to the Paris Olympics, where Scheffler and McIlroy are among the favourites in the men’s edition at Le Golf National and Nelly Korda is aiming for gold for Team USA in the women’s tournament, before plenty more golf to come over the remainder of the campaign.

Can Europe write a new page in Solheim Cup history?
The United States holds a 10-8 record against Europe in the Solheim Cup, but they have not won since 2017, losing back-to-back editions in 2019 and 2021 before last year’s competition in Spain ended in a dramatic draw.
The Solheim Cup is being played in back-to-back years to avoid conflict with the Ryder Cup, with Pettersen retaining the European captaincy and looking to guide the defending champions to a second straight victory on American soil.
Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia hosts the event September 13-15. live on Sky Sports, where Europe will likely have a good portion of last year’s team at their disposal against a strong American team. The 2015 edition saw the International team beaten by a single point in Korea and a last-day comeback was needed in Australia in 2019 for the USA team to prevail, with Tiger Woods as captain, with plenty of positives shown in a 17.5-12.5 defeat at Quail Hollow in 2022. Could a first victory for the International team since 1998 be a possibility?

McIlroy is a five-time winner of the Race to Dubai and is in a prime position to top the DP World Tour standings again, having won earlier in the year at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and also finishing runner-up at the US Open.
He will return to Europe at the Amgen Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in September, both part of the DP World Tour’s new ‘Back 9’ schedule, with McIlroy also set to compete at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in November.
The new season-ending double-header in the Middle East will see 70 players take part in Abu Dhabi and 50 in Dubai, while McIlroy being crowned Race to Dubai champion would put him two Orders of Merit shy of Colin Montgomerie’s all-time tally.
