Tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv to demand a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the return of hostages held by Hamas.
Organizers said it was the largest anti-government demonstration since the start of the Gaza war. Video shows scuffles and people arrested as police – some on horseback – tried to keep protesters away from the city’s main highway.
The rallies have become weekly events and protesters also want new elections. Among the demonstrators were relatives of the hostages: around 120 hostages are still detained in Gaza, some of whom have died.
Hamas and its allies seized it when they attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
Gaza health authorities say Israel’s devastating offensive has killed more than 37,400 people.
