Democrats wholeheartedly reacted favorably to President Biden’s remarks about how he wants to approach the economy, according to a focus group that offered its endorsement in real time during Thursday’s presidential debate, according to a Fox News Digital focus group.
The Republican, Democrat and Independent group used dials to react live at the start of debate where Biden argued that his economic record was no worse than that of former President Trump.
“Let’s look at what I had left when I became president. What Mr. Trump left me,” Biden said. “We had an economy in freefall. The pandemic was very poorly managed. A lot of people were dying.”
BIDEN TORN FOR “OLD” APPEARANCE AND “WEAK” VOICE DURING FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE: “DEEPLY ALARMING”
“The economy collapsed. There were no jobs. The unemployment rate reached 15%,” Biden added. “We’re in a situation where if you look at everything that was done in his administration, he didn’t do much. By the time he left, things were in chaos.”
Democrats in the focus group agreed with the president, unlike Republicans and independents, who moved in the complete opposite direction.
Republicans in the focus group almost unanimously disagreed with Biden’s views on Trump’s economy.
During the debate, the two men argued over inflation, with Biden says Trump’s economy was so bad that there was no room for the price increases that many Americans have had to live with in recent years.
Democrats also endorsed Biden’s criticism of Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approval among Republicans and independents has been trending downward.
Independents, however, seemed somewhat in agreement when Biden said he wanted to cap “corporate greed“to lower the prices of basic necessities like gasoline, groceries, prescription drugs and housing.
“There’s still a lot to do,” he said. “Working-class people are still struggling. The combination I have left with the business world is why we’re in this trouble right now.”

“We are working to bring prices down around the kitchen table and that is what we are going to do,” he added.
