England bowler Ollie Robinson conceded a County Championship record 43 runs in a match while playing for Sussex against Leicestershire in Hove.
Robinson was caught for six fours and two sixes by Louis Kimber, with three no-ball boundaries, in an incredibly costly nine-ball in which he also dispatched a single.
Earlier in the week, England spinner Shoaib Bashir – who is currently on loan to Worcestershire from Somerset – conceded 38 runs in an over against Surrey, including five sixes from Dan Lawrence.
At that stage, Bashir’s over was the most expensive in Championship history, equaling the 38 runs Alex Tudor was taken for when Surrey played Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford, from which a young Andrew Flintoff struck one 34.
But Robinson now holds the unwanted record after being taken down by Leicestershire slugger Kimber, who notched a 62-ball century during the carnage after starting the over on 72 not out from 56 deliveries.
Robinson and Bashir could possibly be part of England’s XI for the first Test against the West Indies at Lord’s from July 10, live Aerial sportsso the touring hitters may be licking their lips!
