DigitalHealth.London Alumni and Current Companies Cognitant, Dr Julian, Islacare, hero of surgery, and Kidney Beam have been selected for the 2024 cohort of the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA). Launched in 2015, the NIA is commissioned by NHS England’s Accelerated Access Collaborative, delivered in partnership with the 15 Health Innovation Networks and hosted by UCLPartners..
The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) is a three-year program that champions innovation and business growth in the health and care sector. With a focus on improving patient care, improving the efficiency of the NHS and promoting job growth in the UK, the NIA enables fellows to develop their innovations for use within the NHS and wider healthcare landscape.
Throughout the program, NIA Fellows will receive personalized support and mentorship from a diverse network of experts, including access to a wealth of resources, guidance and opportunities collaboration with health sector leaders and stakeholders.
At a time of immense challenge, these innovations have delivered results that show us a vision of a better NHS for staff and patients.

Cognitive
(Cohort 1 of the Evidence Generating Bootcamp)
- Cognitant democratizes health information and provides people with accessible, visual and reliable health content through its information prescribing platform, Healthinote, enabling them to better manage their own care and improve healthcare efficiency. NHS.
Dr Julien
(Accelerator Cohort 3)
- Dr. Julian is an innovative mental health web platform and mobile app that increases accessibility to mental health care. They connect patients almost immediately to mental health therapists via secure video/audio/text appointments using a calendar scheduling system.
Islacare
(Accelerator Cohort 6)
- The Isla Vision Health Record is designed to help patients and clinicians across the broadest range of health concerns, from ophthalmology and dermatology in the acute setting to tissue viability and therapies in the community. Isla was founded in London in 2019 and was quickly adopted by the NHS in acute and community care settings.
Kidney bundle
(Accelerator Cohort 7)
- Kidney Beam is a clinically proven online exercise, education and wellness platform developed for people living with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Created in partnership with King’s College Hospital, London, the platform offers live and on-demand classes and programs led by physiotherapists and exercise professionals trained in or living with CKD.
Surgery Hero
(Accelerator Cohort 6)
- Surgery Hero is the home of preparation and recovery experts. Their perioperative program supports patients from the decision to operate through their recovery. The service combines expert human care, personalized content and cutting-edge technology to empower patients to take control of their health so they can conquer their surgery.
