CNN was shocked by the way the former president Donald Trump is doing well in polls among black voters ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
On Monday, the network’s senior political data reporter Harry Enten said he was “speechless” over the rise of presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee Trump from about 7% support at this point in 2020 to 21% now — compared to President Joe Bidenfell from 86% to 70% during the same period.
“I keep looking for signs that this is going to get back to normal and I’m not seeing it in the polls yet,” Enten told anchor John Berman. “We are headed for a historic performance for the Republican presidential nominee, the likes of which we have not seen in six decades.”
Trump appears to have made particular inroads with young black voters, he suggested. “Look at black voters under 50. Damn it, friends! Holy cow!
Support for Biden “declined” from 80 points to 37 points, Enten detailed. “That lead has shrunk by more than half. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m speechless because you always look at history and you say, “Okay, this is a historic moment.” »
Enten said this could indicate “a historic moment right now where black voters under 50, who have historically made up such a large part of the Democratic coalition, are leaving in droves.”
