World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made an impact in the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge as Davis Riley moved to 10 under after shooting a bogey-free six-under 64 to lead Texas.
Riley entered the weekend at 10-under 130, two shots out of the field. After racking up five of his six birdies over a six-hole stretch in the middle of his round, Riley faced a three-foot left putt for par on his final hole, the par-four ninth, when play was suspended due to a dangerous weather situation. at the Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth.
Scheffler was in danger of missing the cut after opening with a two-over 72, but he fared better Friday when he made four straight birdies in the middle of a bogey-free 65 to reach three under par.
“I was starving, so I got some food, which was good,” Riley said after a weather delay of one hour and nine minutes.
“Luckily there was a meter up the hill, so it wasn’t too stressful.
“I hit about five three-footers before I walked over there to finish the round. Yeah, I hit it down the middle and did it. It was nice to end the day and I makes a good sixpence without stress.”
Riley birdied the 15th and 16th holes before making three more at the 18th, first and second. He capped his scoring of the day by keeping his approach at the par-four sixth hole to 10 feet, then draining the putt from right to left.
Pierceson Coody and Hayden Buckley each shot 65 to take second place at eight under.
Buckley made five birdies on a bogey-free round, while Coody made an eagle two on a 49-yard shot from the second fairway and he managed to end his day with three consecutive birdies.
Coody, 24, and his twin brother Parker Coody are on the field at the invitation of sponsors. They played at the University of Texas and are starting their professional careers.
“It’s a good feeling (to be tied for second) because the season hasn’t been what I wanted it to be this year, and to know that my game is going in the right direction, it “It’s great,” Pierceson Coody said.
“I try to stay in a process mindset with everything and just build because I know I still have a lot of events left and having the opportunity to win the tournament is a great feeling. “

“I’m still fighting, I’m still on medication, I’m still fighting all the (symptoms), but probably a little more positive, I would say, in the last three weeks than earlier this year,” Woodland said .
“I think I was just getting down on myself because I wasn’t feeling good. There’s a lot of reason to be positive because I’m in a different position than I was a year ago.”
