After all, it’s America’s pastime, and since we’re always patriotic, it’s only fitting that all three plays on Friday are played from the field.

From a fierce rivalry to a matchup that features one of the best prospects to step on the mound in years, we’ve got picks across the board that should make holiday recovery a little easier.

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees

A Red Sox-Yankees game on a Friday night? Could it be better?

New York has been in full swing lately, more recently getting swept by the Cincinnati Reds in a three-game stretch that should drop to 4-13 since June 15. Two of the losses during that span came against Boston.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge went 3 for 4 in the series opener against Cincinnati, but failed to record a hit in seven at-bats over the next two games.

Judge leads the major leagues with 32 home runs this season, and we’re counting on him to reach 33rd when he faces Red Sox starter Tanner Houck. Judge has seen Houck succeed in his career (3 of 9), but he has yet to leave the ballpark against the right-hander.

What if the judge decides to throw a ball over the wall against someone else? Well, that works too.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Our good friend Patrick Corbin will be chosen for Washington, someone who has become very reliable when it comes to betting against him.

Corbin was featured in our Sunday Best Bets articlewhen the left-hander faced the Rays and allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings. Tampa Bay’s team total was over 4.5 runs, and the Rays ended up helping us out in a 5-0 victory.

It’s been nearly two months since Corbin last won, May 10 against Boston, and he’s 0-4 with a 5.40 ERA over his last eight starts.

If Nationals manager Dave Martinez keeps giving Corbin the ball every five days, we’re going to keep crushing opposing teams’ totals until it fails us.

New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

It’s safe to say that the Pittsburgh rookie Paul Skenes lived up to the hype.

Skenes, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft, has 70 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings over the first nine starts of his major league career. He has struck out at least eight players in five of his last six outings, and struck out seven in the other.

Skenes will now get a look at the Mets, whose hitters have 62 strikeouts in the last six games. New York is 2-4 in that span and most recently had just one hit in a 1-0 loss to the Nationals on Sunday.

Feel free to play it safe and rely on Skenes’ current line of over 7.5 strikeouts, but if there’s one situation where you should bet big or go home, it’s this one.
