Asus plans to support Microsoft’s new Dynamic Lighting feature that lets Windows 11 users control a motherboard’s RGB lighting without the need for a separate app. Asus has started testing new BIOS beta updates for its two AMD 600 And Intel 700 series motherboards that include Dynamic Lighting support.
Microsoft Adding dynamic lighting to Windows 11 In September, Microsoft brought native RGB lighting controls to Windows for the first time. The feature allows users to control RGB lights using the open HID LampArray standard. Manufacturers like Acer, Asus, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly have all partnered with Microsoft to support the feature.
Dynamic Lighting support on the latest Asus motherboards requires a BIOS update that should be available in the coming weeks. A beta version is available now on the Asus forums for AMD And Intel motherboards, but I wouldn’t recommend flashing a beta BIOS unless you’re willing to roll back to an older BIOS version if you encounter bugs.
Once your Asus motherboard supports dynamic lighting, you can manage brightness, colors, and effects in the Settings section of Windows 11. The lighting controls are pretty basic at the moment, but at least you can skip Asus’s Armoury Crate tool and use Windows’ native RGB controls. This also means you don’t need to use third-party RGB controller software. like OpenRGB either, unless you need the extra features it provides.
