Americans watch in disgust as chaos spreads across our nation’s college campuses. Jewish students and professors fear for their safety as anti-Semitism goes unchecked and the rule of law is abandoned by morally bankrupt university leaders taking the example of President Joe Biden.
Enough is enough. It is time to restore law, order and moral decency to Colombia and universities across the country.
President Johnson and House Republicans announced our intention to hold our institutions of higher education accountable for their failure to protect Jewish students and condemn anti-Semitism. Billions of taxpayer dollars flow to these institutions in the form of federal student aid, research grants and favorable tax treatments. To university presidents and administrators, our message is clear: if you cannot keep your students safe, you will be held accountable.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) had to restore order on the Columbia University campus Tuesday evening after the avoidable chaos that engulfed the university campus for weeks reached a new level when Hamilton Hall was stormed, defaced and taken over by a pro-Hamas crowd. Employees of the establishment were kept inside and the building was barricaded as these terrorist sympathizers hung a banner calling for “Intifada” in front of the windows.
It’s not just Colombia. This is a moral rot that has taken root in America’s institutions of higher education.
At Harvard University, a Palestinian the flag was raised at University Hall where the American flag flies.
Jewish students were barricaded in the library Coopers Union.
The University of Southern California canceled the graduation because it could not guarantee the safety of students.
At Yale University, a Jewish student was stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag during a demonstration.
COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY LOCKS DOWN CAMPUS BUILDINGS AFTER OVERNIGHT MUTINY: “IMMEDIATELY EFFECTIVE”
A woman was allegedly beaten unconscious by a pro-Palestinian mob at the University of California, Los Angeles because she was Jewish.
Dozens of these occupations are taking place across the country, often in ways that violate university rules and lead to increased targeting and harassment of Jewish students and faculty.

In December, I exposed how entrenched anti-Semitism has become in America’s so-called “elite” institutions of higher education when I interviewed the presidents of Harvard, MIT and UPenn in what became congressional testimony on most watched in history. These three university presidents could not answer the simple question: “Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate your university’s code of conduct?”
On April 17, Shafik, president of Columbia University and board members epitomized leadership failure during another congressional hearing when they could not explain Colombia’s lack of response to anti-Semitism and lawlessness on the campus. Eight days ago, I was the first member of Congress to demand the resignation of President Shafik over her failure to disband the anti-Semitic mob devouring the Columbia campus and ensure the safety of Columbia’s Jewish students. Instead, she negotiated with these self-proclaimed terrorists, allowing their anti-Semitic mob to grow.

There can be NO moral equivalence. It’s time to send a clear message to the world: anti-Semitism has no place in America.
The world is watching. And House Republicans are leading where college presidents, far-left Democrats and Joe Biden have failed.
