In the endless list of possible uses for AI, “getting selfie advice from a voice clone of Kylie Jenner” seems both completely outlandish and pretty inevitable. So of course it existsThis is not a widely available application, at least not yet; it is an artist and programmer’s experiment Dries Depoorter.
With access to a few APIs from OpenAI and ElevenLabs, and a little knowledge of Python, You, too, can improve your selfie gameThe app takes a photo via your webcam, then transmits it to ChatGPT with a prompt asking for fun advice in Ms. Jenner’s voice. The output text is then transmitted to an ElevenLabs voice clone of the selfie specialist, and the advice appears:
“Okay, I like the spontaneous vibe, but let’s add some drama. Turn toward the light, take off your headphones, and think mysterious thoughts to spice things up, because lighting is everything, baby.”
We spoke with Depoorter about how he creates his work, how he envisions the future of AI, and how he responds to people who see his art and want to turn it into a business. It’s a lively conversation, so check it out above. To see all of Dries’ work, go to his portfolio.
