Anders Vejrgang won the inaugural EA Sports FC Professional World Championship in Berlin, taking home his $250,000 share of the $1 million prize pool.
Vejrgang defeated Yuval Blizovsky in Saturday’s final, topping the 32 players who participated in the three-day event.
“I didn’t realize I won, but I felt like I played amazing today. I’m really happy that I finally understood that I’m the best in the world,” Vejrgang said. “I’m very grateful to all the people who helped me throughout my career, but this is just the beginning, and I just want to win every tournament from now on and I know I’m good enough to do that.”
The competition kicked off with over 50,000 players from around the world. FC Pro Open champion PHzin and eChampions League winner Jonny were among the 32 finalists, but it was Vejrgang who emerged victorious.
Vejrgang advanced from the knockout stage and then dominated Blizovsky with a 7-0 victory in the grand final.
