Celtic have made an approach to sign Adam Idah from Norwich City on a permanent basis this summer.
The striker joined Brendan Rodgers’ side on loan during the winter window and scored nine goals in 19 games – including the Scottish Cup final winner against Rangers – as Celtic added to their Premiership title success.
Sky Sports News In January, Rodgers revealed there was no option to buy clause in the loan deal but, speaking in May, he made it clear he wanted to keep the 23-year-old at the club this summer.
“He was a real catalyst for us,” Rodgers said after their Scottish Cup final win. “I knew what to expect, he’s quick, dynamic and has strength.
“What he has shown since he arrived is that he is a goalscorer. Great headers, great movements in the box.
“He’s been absolutely huge for us and he’s definitely someone I’d love to do something with.”
“Celtic must keep their best players”
When discussing Celtic’s summer transfer targets, Sky Sports Chris Sutton said Sky Sports News Last week: “There is still plenty of work to do for Celtic in the summer, but Brendan Rodgers will feel he has found his feet again and is in a stronger position than last season.
“He needs a goalkeeper, Joe Hart was brilliant for three seasons and he will be sorely missed and it will be difficult to replace him. He will also have a centre-forward role. Adam Idah came in in January and has played really well. I would be surprised if they don’t try to do a deal but Norwich City and their new manager will want to keep him.”
“They certainly need to strengthen at centre-forward and keep Matt O’Riley as well. If they want to be successful in Europe next season they need to keep their best players.”
“I always thought Celtic should do their business early in the transfer window, they dragged their feet last summer and I just wonder why there is a delay in this transfer window.”
“There is a lot of work to be done”
When asked last week whether Celtic could make a move for Idah or fellow loanee Paulo Bernardo this summer, assistant John Kennedy said: Sky Sports News Thursday: “Again, there are a lot of conversations taking place as we come back for pre-season and hopefully in the coming weeks some things will start to happen.
“There’s a lot of work to do and a lot of plates to clear.”
