Hello, my name is Deividas Norkunas and I am the AI Experimentation Lead at Kilo Health. I’ve always been passionate about problem solving, and when there’s no challenge to face, let’s just say I start looking for something to do.
Prior to this role, I worked as a developer and then as an engineering manager. But my interest in AI grew and I began to explore the benefits it could bring to my work and to me. After diving into AI solutions, I naturally gravitated towards this role.
In this article, I’ll break down what my role is, the pros and cons of AI for businesses, and current trends.
A new role: responsible for AI experimentation
Let me tell you a little about what my daily life is like. In my role, what I essentially do is take an idea and explore ways to implement it using AI. It’s about turning this concept into a tangible reality, you know? Experiment with existing frameworks and see if we can improve them with AI.
It’s fascinating to see how these unique AI-centric roles are popping up everywhere. Businesses are really starting to leverage AI to their advantage, and the beauty of it is that you can make your products even smarter.
But that’s a bit abstract. This could be improving product functionality, refining business decision-making processes, data processing, or even idea generation itself.
The real benefit of integrating AI into idea generation is the speed and cost-effectiveness it brings. Because when you’re trying to innovate, one of the biggest obstacles is always lack of resources, whether it’s time or manpower and so on.
However, for now, you probably won’t find my job title available in the market, even though AI roles are becoming more and more popular. I think it all comes down to whether companies recognize the need for someone to take on the experimental aspect of the job.
You’ll come across titles like “AI Manager” and other similar titles, but new titles could appear as we speak, given how quickly these roles are being created. These jobs require a logical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to think about aspects that don’t yet exist. If you are not creative enough, it might be difficult to achieve this.
The benefits and risks of AI for businesses
Over time, it becomes more and more possible to integrate AI into every business, regardless of its niche. Of course, there may be some areas where AI is not as advanced and difficult to use, but it’s only a matter of time (I’m talking months, not years).
I mean, who wouldn’t appreciate having their problems solved for them?
But if you asked me if every business absolutely needs AI, I’d say it’s especially crucial for small startups or mid-sized businesses, because that’s where resources can be limited.
However, there are risks to relying solely on AI. You shouldn’t blindly trust him to make the final decisions without thinking twice. Remember that publicly available AI models, like ChatGPT, learn from the vast information available on the Internet. Although private AI models are currently safe.
Here’s a fun fact: ChatGPT provided more accurate data when it was created than it does today. This is because back then there were dedicated people training it and sharing valuable information. However, as he began to learn on the Internet, he began to lose some of his precision.
The Internet is full of false information, which AI also picks up. He could wrongly consider false information to be accurate.
But public AI also learns from people’s requests. Therefore, it is not wise for companies to share sensitive information because it could end up in the AI model, allowing others to access it simply upon request.
It’s like in real life: you always have to think about who you’re talking to and what you’re saying.
Current AI Trends
Trends in the world of AI can be categorized into different sections, from the most used to the least used. For example, people use AI most for technical support and troubleshooting. Some examples of this would be improving code, translating, getting Excel formulas, data sampling, explaining idioms, project management, etc.
Previously, you had to spend time doing these tasks, but AI has completely changed that. Its responses are lightning-fast, handling basic queries effortlessly, allowing humans to tackle the more complex ones, saving time and breaking the monotony.
AI is also becoming popular for content creation and editing. This includes generating ideas, editing text, writing emails, writing social media posts, editing video transcripts, and various other writing formats. This is especially common on social media.
Next comes the category of personal and professional support. This means that people are using AI tools to get advice, both personal and professional, and even medical assistance. Also for tasks such as writing a CV, negotiating a deal, filing a complaint and motivating yourself.
It’s like having a wise friend who is always available to help you solve your life problems.
However, ultimately, adding a personal touch will always elevate AI’s work, and I think one day people will appreciate it. It’s all in your hands. AI experimentation in our company would not be possible without me or someone else in my role. It’s about teamwork, not competition.
