One of two Jordanian nationals who attempted to rape Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia earlier this month, entered the United States illegally in April before being released, multiple Department of Homeland Security sources revealed to Fox News.
The individual, who along with his colleague is now detained by ICE pending removal proceedings, crossed the border between the United States and Mexico in the San Diego area, according to sources.
He was later released under court summons as no initial derogatory information was found about him, the sources added. They said the other Jordanian national had overstayed on a student visa.
THE an attempted violation took place on May 3. A base spokesperson said two people in a box truck were stopped at a gate, the driver allegedly telling military police they were making a delivery to the post office and that they worked for a company under -processed by Amazon.

However, an Amazon spokesperson told Fox News that it did not appear these people were delivering on behalf of the company and that it was looking into the matter.
Because the men had no base affiliation and did not have approved credentials, they were directed to a holding area for screening.
Homeland Security sources who spoke to Fox News said neither man had a criminal history in the United States.
Their identities are not being released for privacy reasons, officials also said.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is now facing scrutiny over the incident.
“Please explain how they came to the United States. Were they here illegally? Are any of them on a terrorist watch list?” Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., questioned Mayorkas in a recent letter, also asking about the individuals’ current status.
