Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish football federation, will be tried for kissing a player after Spain won the Women’s World Cup.
The 46-year-old kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain’s 1-0 win over England last August in Sydney.
Hermoso, 34, testified in court that the kiss was not consensual.
Rubiales faces one count of sexual assault and one count of coercion for his alleged actions following the kiss.
The offenses carry prison sentences of one year and 18 months respectively.
The Spanish High Court has announced that it will also try the former coach of the women’s team, Jorge Vilda, the team’s current sporting director, Albert Luque, and the head of marketing of the Spanish football federation, Ruben Rivera.
All three are accused of coercing Hermoso into saying the kiss was consensual.
Rubiales has claimed the kiss was consensual and has denied any wrongdoing.
The court set bail at €65,000 (£55,900) for his sexual assault charge.
He also set a joint bond of an additional €65,000 between Rubiales, Vilda, Luque and Rivera for the coercion charge.
The case will be heard in the High Court because the alleged offenses took place overseas.
FIFA Forbidden Rubiales of all football-related activities for three years last October.
World football’s governing body said it found that there had violated article 13 of his disciplinary code after kissing Hermoso.
