My name is Deimante, currently Head of Marketing at Kilo Health and a big lover of this business. My journey until being hired at Kilo was quite a journey.
How it all began?
I interviewed with 11 different people and had to prove myself over 3 months. Kilo Health takes great care in selecting key employees, and understandably so. However, I didn’t mind the wait at all, because I knew deep down that I wanted nothing more than to be a part of Kilo Health.
The culmination of it all was my final lunch with our CEO, Tadas Burgaila. We discussed our business and marketing philosophies, and when he finally told me those magic words – “welcome aboard” – I couldn’t keep my happiness to myself.
For those who are currently on this journey or those who will embark on it in the future, my advice is simple: showcase your knowledge and personality, but also don’t forget to listen. This is the basic secret to knowing how to vibe with the people around you.
The doctorate is my passion and my pleasure
My research topic is “Augmentation-Based Decision Making: Emotional and Artificial Intelligence”, which may seem complex, but it is actually more intriguing than complicated.
Simply put, it explores how emotional intelligence, combined with artificial intelligence, influences executive decision-making. Interestingly, this theme is also present daily at Kilo Health. So I experience it both at work and in my studies.
I always wanted to continue my studies, but I was unable to do so because, at the time, I had other priorities and was not able to dedicate enough quality time.
But eventually the time came when I could do whatever I wanted. I received the call that I was accepted to college while I was barefoot on the summer grass, and I started crying uncontrollably while jumping for joy.
That’s how much it meant to me.
From logistics to marketing
Logistics itself is incredibly dynamic and deeply ingrained in the business world. Growing up in this environment, growing my business has become second nature to me. It has shaped my personality as I have lived and breathed the business world.
I have always been someone who enjoys participating in public gatherings, keeping up to date with trends and changes in the world and everything that is happening around us. It’s no surprise that marketing has naturally found its way into my life, as I see its influence everywhere I go.
What I’ve noticed is that sales and marketing have often been seen as separate fields in the past, but I’m convinced that marketing is the new sales today.
By the way, Kilo Health is an example of how marketing-driven companies can become global leaders.
Looking back on my transition from logistics to marketing, when I felt the need to shift gears and move away from logistics, my first move was to head to a marketing agency, delving deeper into various topics.
What I mean by that is that in a single day, you could be working on projects for retail clients and then meeting with bank representatives, moving effortlessly across different sectors.
However, during these early stages, it is important to gain a thorough understanding of how businesses work, so that marketing becomes a habit for you.
In marketing, ignoring is not an option
Additionally, in marketing, it is essential to keep up to date with tendencies — what is happening in the world, what is evolving, what competitors are doing and what new techniques are emerging. Not being aware of it is simply not an option if you want to succeed.
The marketing landscape, especially in terms of content usage, is changing like a wave. Trends can change in a matter of weeks, depending on the platform and customer base.
Everything is constantly changing: the popularity of the channels, the age of customers and their consumption habits. Therefore, your marketing strategy must adapt accordingly.
That’s why it’s crucial to follow the marketing waves, study your market, and never stop learning. There is a wealth of content out there for this purpose – you just need to know how to use it.
Plus, with just a computer you can work anywhere in the world, marketing knows no boundaries. Especially when you have the option to work remotely, like at Kilo Health.
Of course, there will always be ups and downs, because success in marketing depends on many factors. But ultimately, we learn and grow from our mistakes, right? So there are no limits in this area.
The secret to balancing 3 roles
At a conference on women leaders, I was asked how I manage my dual role as a marketing manager and a PhD student, while being a mother of two children with curricular and extracurricular activities.
My golden rule? Cut the elephant into pieces.
Setting priorities is essential. By this I mean it’s essential to balance your responsibilities, establish a clear routine, and maintain discipline – choosing to get up earlier and dedicate your weekends to studying instead of going out.
I never allow myself to “go with the flow.”
Discipline is crucial. I follow a strict schedule of waking up, working, picking up my children from kindergarten (luckily my husband and I take turns doing this), studying and leaving time for fun.
In a high-stress environment, getting enough hours of sleep and prioritizing health checks are non-negotiable.
This lifestyle is not for everyone.
Essentially, we all have many opportunities and we often limit ourselves in our minds. However, there are many examples that show that a person can achieve a lot if they really put their mind to it. When you do activities you love, they happen in a completely different way, with pleasure. This is also true for me: my work and my colleagues bring me indescribable happiness.
I go to the office every day because I want to. My studies also bring me joy because the subject interests me personally and the university provides an incredible and supportive community.
My family and my children are without a doubt the joy and meaning of my entire life. We are best friends and a strong, united team at home.
