Catholic advocacy group Catholic Answers released an AI priest called “Father Justin” earlier this week – but quickly defrocked the chatbot after repeatedly claiming he was a real clergy member.
Earlier in the week, Futurism engaged in an exchange with the robot, who really engaged: he claimed that he was a real priest, saying that he lived in Assisi, Italy and that “from a very young age I felt a strong vocation to the priesthood.”
On X-formerly-Twitter, a user even posted a topic consisting of screenshots in which the Godly chatbot appeared to take their confessions and even offer them a sacrament.
Our interactions with Father Justin were ad hoc, as the chatbot only answered questions by microphone and often misunderstood them, such as a question about Israel and Palestine which was confusingly told that it was “real”. “.
“Yes, my friend,” replied Father Justin. “I am as real as the faith we share.”
Here is the complete storywith remarks on masturbation, and for the pointer I thank a faithful M drive.
