The 2024 Formula 1 season continues with a second consecutive Sprint weekend as the Miami Grand Prix hosts the format for the first time.
After the drama of the Wet Sprint in China, another action-packed weekend is set to follow as the state of Florida hosts the first of three races in the United States this season.
In addition to the Sprint format which brings a new dynamic to the action at Miami International Autodrome, the venue offers the incredible view of a paddock on the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium field and has attracted some of the world’s biggest stars in sports and entertainment.
In effect for the second of six sprint weekends this season, the new 2024 format continues to offer teams and drivers just one 60-minute practice session before competition begins Friday evening with the sprint qualifications.
The 100 kilometer sprint competition will follow first thing on Saturday, then full qualifying will take place later in the day before the main event, Sunday’s Grand Prix.
On the track, Max Verstappen will look to keep his quest for a fourth consecutive drivers’ title on track after dominant victories in Japan and China.
Lando Norris will look to build on his best second place of the season in China, with the Briton’s hopes potentially boosted by the arrival of upgrades for his McLaren.
Ferrari will look to return to form after a rest weekend in China which saw it miss out on a podium for the first time this season, while Mercedes will hope to improve on its disappointing start to the year with improvements also arriving for the W15. .
Off the track, there will be plenty to watch out for at Thursday’s media day following legendary designer Adrian Newey’s decision to leave Red Bull and the confirmation of Nico Hulkenberg’s move from Haas to Sauber for the season next.
