Erik ten Hag says Man Utd’s summer transfer plans are ready, adding recruitment since his arrival has been “good” but he is open to ideas from any new manager.
Ins and outs at Man Utd are always a hot topic of conversation during the transfer window. Despite the rumors, Ten Hag revealed that he already had targets in place.
“We are working in the background on the plans with the recruiters and our staff. We are working on our plan, which is ready, all we have to do is execute it,” he said before the trip. Saturday Night Football at Bournemouth, live. on Aerial sports.
“I trust the new owners, they will work as quickly as possible and bring new structures that they can execute.”
When asked if the arrival of a new football director or technical director this summer would have an impact on these plans, Ten Hag replied: “We have good projects with quality players, so you see for recruitment.
“(Andre) Onana is doing very well, (Rasmus) Hojlund, everyone sees his great talent and potential. (Lisandro) Martinez, everyone is extremely happy with him. Recruitment is good, but if they have Even better ideas are always open to us.
“You have to judge the options and if they have better options we are open to filling it. We have a way of playing, so we know the profiles exactly, so it has to match the profiles we want.”
It follows the departure of director of football John Murtough this week, but Ten Hag says it will not interfere with his plans for the team.
“I miss his support, but he has moved on,” the Man Utd boss said. “We worked well together so I would like to thank John and wish him all the best for the future.
“I have worked well and closely with the new owner. This will not change. It has no impact on the way I work here.
“The conditions are perfect and always are and I’m happy about that. We want to create the right conditions to succeed.”
Ten Hag was also asked about his team’s goals this season. Man Utd scored 45 goals – as many as Luton, Brentford and this weekend’s opponents Bournemouth – but injuries once again played their part.
Asked if he would consider signing a proven goalscorer this season, Ten Hag said: “It would help. As I always did in this plan that we built, we should have had enough goals.
“You count on Rashy (Marcus Rashford)’s goals, and last year he scored 30. You count on (Anthony) Martial’s goals, and in my first season he played very well. In In important matches, he had a big impact on our performances.
“And bringing in a goalscorer like Rasmus Hojlund should have been enough to score goals.
“We need two strikers in our league or in our competitions, so we need more options. We need double positioning in each position. In some cases we haven’t had a choice this season, like the striker and the rear. This has a negative impact on the results.”
And his press conference ended on a positive note. Despite injury problems on the pitch and a series of changes off it, Ten Hag says he can see the direction the club is heading.
“We couldn’t expect this (problems this season), but we have to face them,” he said.
“This business is about results and many only see the results, but you also have to see what’s underneath. I see that and I see the potential, the direction, so I’m positive about the path that we want to take and we will. successful.”
Ten Hag: “Don’t judge us now”
Juliette Ferrington from Sky Sports:
There’s no need to tell Erik Ten Hag that his campaign was disappointing. He knows it should be better.
He and his players will try to salvage as many points as possible from their final seven Premier League games. Qualification for the Champions League is the desired position, even if the task at hand seems beyond them.
“Don’t judge us now, we have to fight until the end,” he told me ahead of this weekend’s game against Bournemouth. “Play every game with the right attitude. We’ve had a lot of setbacks, but every game is a new opportunity and that’s the way the approach should be. We have to keep going.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spoken openly about how good European managers have found life difficult at Manchester United. Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho to name just two.
Van Gaal lost his job almost as soon as the final whistle blew at Wembley in 2016. Manchester United had just beaten Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.
At the time, I was on maintenance duty and watching chaos swirl around the tunnel area before my own eyes. I remember him carrying the cup in one hand adorned with his winning red ribbons as he celebrated on the field.
His smile betrayed what was to unfold in the corridors of the national stadium as rumors of his imminent departure spread like wildfire.
Even if Ten Hag achieve success in the FA Cup this season, there is no guarantee he will get the opportunity to return. For now, he trusts the process and has all the energy to continue.
He said: “I’m a positive human being. The sun always shines. Maybe it’s behind the clouds at the moment, but when I wake up in the morning, it’s a new day.
“I continue. I want to enjoy every day. If you can do what you love as much as possible, working and cooperating with young people to bring them to their maximum level, that’s the best you can do.
“They have shown me the direction to follow. I am very positive about it. You can feel the energy coming in, I understand the structures they want to put in place that will help and support us to achieve better results.”
