The family of a mother of five who was allegedly murdered by a illegal immigrant criticized the Biden administration Tuesday night for having “we have opened our borders” to the man accused of killing her.
Michael Morin, Rachel Morin’s brother, spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Morin was killed in August after going for a run on a trail near her home in Maryland. Police found her body in a culvert, covered in bruises and suffering from severe head trauma.
“Rachel, an accomplished, joyful athlete and mother of five, was raped and murdered by a suspected illegal immigrant,” Michael Morin told the crowd at the Republican National Convention. “It has been described as one of the most brutal and violent crimes that has ever occurred in this country.” Harford County, Maryland history.”

Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, faces a half-dozen charges, including first-degree murder, rape and kidnapping, in connection with the death of Rachel Morin. Authorities said Martinez Hernandezsuspected of having links to gangs, fled his home country in February 2023 after an arrest warrant was issued for the murder of a woman there.
He tried three times unsuccessfully to enter the United States before succeeding. across the border on February 13, 2023 near El Paso, Texas, authorities said.
Rachel’s brother criticized those who advocate open borders.
“Open borders are often presented as a gesture of compassion and virtue. But there is nothing compassionate about allowing violent criminals into our country and taking children away from their mothers,” he said.
He then criticized the Biden administration for its border policies.

“Joe Biden and his appointed border czar, Kamala Harris, have opened our borders to him and others like him, allowing them to victimize the innocent,” he said.
He said they had not heard from the White House, but they had heard from former President Donald Trump.
The speech came on the second day of the Republican National Convention, which was themed “Making America Safe Again.” Republicans have repeatedly lambasted the administration over the ongoing crisis at the southern border, accusing it of fueling the crisis by opening the border and rolling back Trump-era policies.
Before Morin spoke, attendees heard a moving speech from Anne Fundner, a mother who lost her son to fentanyl.

The Biden administration says it has worked to address the hemispheric crisis, but it has run into difficulties because Congress has failed to provide funding and comprehensive immigration reform.
But the numbers have declined since President Biden unveiled an executive order to limit some border entries last month. Since then, officials say the number of border crossings has dropped by 50%.
