Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump haven’t always gotten along, but after the former president survived a assassination attempt Over the weekend, Bezos decided to bury the hatchet.
Hours after Trump was injured in a shooting at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, the Amazon founder congratulated him in a post on X.
“Our former president showed extraordinary grace and courage under fire tonight. I am so grateful for his safety and so sad for the victims and their families,” Bezos wrote.
Bezos was one of several business leaders who came out in support of the former president following the shooting. Pershing Square founder and investor Bill Ackman officially endorsed Trump in a lengthy message published on Saturday. But Donald Trump hasn’t always gotten along well with his fellow 1 percenters, and before Bezos called for peace this weekend, he was one of the former president’s favorite targets.
Trump has often criticized Bezos on X, mainly for owning The Washington Postwhich he bought in 2013 and in which he published articles and opinion pieces critical of the former president. In a stream of tweets from 2015, Trump took a picture at Bezos’ property Jobclaiming he owned the newspaper only to avoid being taxed. He also referred to the newspaper as the “Amazon Washington Post,” even though Bezos, not Amazon, owns it.

In 2017, when Trump was president, Bezos, then CEO of Amazon, wrote a personal email to employees to make clear that the company did not support Trump’s ban on immigration from Muslim-majority countries. Later that year, Trump invited Bezos to the White House with other CEOs for a four hour meeting on technology in government.
In 2019, Trump had a new name for Bezos, “Jeff Bozo,” which he used to tease to the second richest man in the world after the National Enquirer tabloid reported Bezos’ alleged affair with his current girlfriend Lauren Sánchez, former host of “So You Think You Can Dance.”
“I am very sorry to hear that Jeff Bozo has been ousted by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than that of his lobbying outlet, the Amazon Washington Post.”
After this weekend’s rally, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also wished Trump well. publish on X.
“It’s hard to digest what happened in Pennsylvania today. It’s simply horrific. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. I’m glad President Trump is safe and hope he makes a speedy recovery,” he wrote.
