Youtube Music is stepping up its game with an exciting new AI feature that lets users create personalized radio stations simply by asking. Spotted by a eagle-eyed Reddit userkater_pro, this experimental feature is currently rolling out to a few lucky people.
Once fully launched, the new feature will introduce a “Request Music Any Way You Want” card to the News Feed. This card, displayed in vibrant purple and pink hues, resembles the existing “Create a Radio: Your Music Tuner” card in the Library tab. Selecting this card will create a chat-based interface where users can request music by voice or keyboard.
For example, a query for “Queer Hip Hop Beats” generated a station that the AI described as “rhymes and beats from the heart, a celebration of queer pride in the art of hip-hop.” The interface also offers a variety of suggestions such as “Catchy Pop Choruses,” “Epic Soundtracks,” and “Upbeat Pop Anthems,” with a “Surprise Me!” option for a randomly generated station.
Speed of Light Mashable
After entering a prompt, the AI generates a radio station, which appears as a playlist card. The station is named after the prompt and marked “Created for you,” with a corresponding description. YouTube Music added a note warning users that “AI-generated responses are experimental,” indicating that the quality and accuracy of responses may vary. It also advises against sharing personal or confidential information.
While it’s still being tested by a few lucky users, it will be interesting to see how YouTube Music’s foray into AI-powered generative playlist creation stacks up against Spotify’s own efforts.
