The author is Tom Wilkinson and the subtitle is Notgeld in the German inflation image economy, 1914-1923Notgeld, or emergency money, was usually issued by private entities to compensate for deficits in public funds during this period.
It is hard to find a book that is more “for me.” The book deals with history, monetary economics, private coinage, and the artistic representations that were placed on private notes. There is a lot of despair in these images, and it is clear that the 19th century seems distant. I read it as soon as I arrived.
You can buy it here. Here is a good short article on art.
