Along with the removal of the buttons, the repost, like, and reply counts will also be removed from each individual post.
Instead of tapping a button, X asks users to swipe left or right on a post to like or reply. X for iOS users can also force touch on a post to open a menu with more options.
The only metric visible on the post in the timeline will be the number of views, which has been moved in the upper right corner of the message.

Musk has long wanted to remove repost buttons, like
Since acquiring the company in October 2022, Elon Musk has made many radical changes to the platform then known as Twitter. The most obvious change being the name of the service. abandoned “Twitter” for “X” last summer.
The last big change to the platform happened last month, when Musk got the most likes on the platform. private. Previously, users could click on “number of likes” and see the list of users who liked a post. Now, only the user who posted the post can see which users liked it. Third parties can no longer see who liked what.
Now that Elon Musk has confirmed that he’s removing the “repost” and “like” buttons from posts, he’s going to make another change he’s been wanting to make for a long time.
“Next, we will remove all action buttons with their superfluous interaction counts from the main timeline,” Musk said. published in a subscriber-only post on X in October of last year. “Only the view count will be displayed unless you tap on a post.”
It’s worth noting that during that same month, Musk also had X developers remove titles from article links shared in posts because he didn’t like the aesthetics. This change was also heavily criticized by X users.
Less than two months later, X finally bring back the headlines to posts that included links to articles, albeit with a slightly different design.
Could we see the same thing happen with the repost and like buttons if removing them proves disastrous? It looks like it.
In responses to one of his biggest supporters on X who advocated for giving the change a chance, Musk claimed that they would change it again if it didn’t work.

“Yeah,” replied Musk.
