Patrick J. Vernon. Patrick is a Lecturer in Gender and War Studies in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. His research focuses on the role of sexist, sexual and racialised representations in security discourses and practices. He has a particular interest in the study of political violence from the micro to the global level, having studied topics including online abuse, hostile media representations of minority groups, border practices, genocide and humanitarian intervention. Alongside his academic practice, Patrick has an independent creative practice that focuses on engagement with minority communities. Patrick was on the steering group of Bab’s Healing Gardensco-organized and produced by the executive immersion: a celebration of community and belonging Moseley Road Bathsand helped deliver The key to the city And Public trust. Patrick’s current book, The coloniality of humanitarian intervention, examines the practice of humanitarian intervention to explore the extent to which racism and heteronormativity, rooted in colonial conceptions of time and space, are enacted through the UK’s responses, failed responses and non-responses to atrocity crimes.
