Patient readers, I’ve had a huge scheduling debacle and so I have to sacrifice Water Cooler to finish an article about an important court decision from California’s Ninth Circuit on vaccination mandates.
Meanwhile, I’m surprised Taylor Swift, a super-spreader, never came up with her own version of this (or maybe she did):
Instead of spaces taking the necessary steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are being asked to sign liability waivers stating that we will not sue when we contract COVID-19. pic.twitter.com/3eGJIW5CVK

Readers, I reverence the New York Public Library, and so this example of end-state neoliberalism fills me with appalled disgust. Do we have readers and/or New York librarians capable of finding out who committed this atrocity and pillorying them? Why the hell don’t they repair their ventilation system, make C02 concentrations visible and make N95s available? Have fun! (Also, should be “agents”, plural, and missing an Oxford comma.)
Plant coordinates: Readers, please feel free to contact me at lambert (UNDERSCORE) strether (DOT) corrente (AT) yahoo (DOT) com, to (a) find out how to send me a check if you are allergic to PayPal and (b) to find out how to send me pictures of plants. I believe they are Black-eyed Susans – I remember fields in the Midwest – but don’t Black-eyed Susans have yellow petals?
Readers: Water Cooler is an autonomous entity not covered by the annual NC fundraiser. So if you see a link you particularly like, or something you wouldn’t see anywhere else, don’t hesitate to express your appreciation in a tangible form. Remember, a tip jar is for tipping! Regular positive feedback makes me feel good and lets me know I’m on the right track with coverage.. When I don’t receive any donations for three or four days, I worry. More practically, a constant flow of donations helps me cover my expenses, and I take this into account when setting my fundraising goals:
Here is the screen that will appear, which I have helpfully annotated:
If you hate PayPal, you can email me at lambert (UNDERSCORE) strether (DOT) corrente (AT) yahoo (DOT) com, and I’ll give you instructions on how to send a check. THANKS!
